Valve CEO Hates the PS3, Loves Wii

If you’re not familiar with Valve, then you’re not a gamer. As the development studio behind the Half-Life series they have clout. Now, there’s been a lot of developers who have expressed their dissatisfaction in working with the PS3, but most of it has been done either anonymously or through the use of very diplomatic language. Well, Gabe Newell, the co-founder and managing director of Valve, wasn’t mincing words when he spoke his mind to the folks at Game Informer magazine, stating:

“The PS3 is a total disaster on so many levels, I think It’s really clear that Sony lost track of what customers and what developers wanted. I’d say, even at this late date, they should just cancel it and do a ‘do over’. Just say, ‘This was a horrible disaster and we’re sorry and we’re going to stop selling this and stop trying to convince people to develop for it’. The happy story is the Wii. I’m betting that by Christmas of next year, the Wii has a larger installed base than the 360. Other people think I’m crazy. I really like everthing that Nintendo is doing.”

Wow, those are quite some words. It’d be interesting (not realistic, but interesting) to see Sony do what he suggested - stop production of the PS3 and do it over again. Could they make a PS3 Lite, sans Blu-Ray? Who knows…

Nintendo..at least in my not-fully-edumacated opinion..is taking a very interesting line with the Wii. I could scoff on it, and I don’t see myself purchasing one..but I don’t have any doubt that it’s damned good at what it was intended to do. Getting together with a group of people to play Wii tennis or boxing or .. fencing? they done that? ..would undoubtedly be a hoot ‘n a holler.

But it’s interesting too, because I can’t say that I would definitely buy an Xbox 360 either, even though it’s hands down my favourite of the 3 — just because I don’t know that I could justify that kinda money. But those visuals while playing music…ya almost got me convinced, Dre..LOL
