Off the Wagon
Tonight I took the leap back into the deep abyssal maw of virtual entertainment that is Blizzard’s World of Warcraft (WoW). That’s right, I’ve re-installed it and renewed the old account; largely in lieu of my inability to procure an Xbox 360 (BTW, I’ve since sucked it up about that whole affair. I now struggle to stifle my feelings on the subject to a quiet despair, and equally muted indignation about Microsoft’s lack of foresight.). But I digress…

I assure you that Laura is less than enthusiastic about my decision to “take up the habit” once again. On the other hand, I’m sure she’ll be delighted that she no longer has to endure my ceaseless prating about how much I want an Xbox 360. Of course those will soon be substituted for by me rabbitting on about “the über new dagger that I picked up at the Auction House” . If you listen carefully, you’ll hear her cheering in anticipation of such engaging conversation.
For those who don’t know, I devoted a good portion of my life to playing WoW after many of the guys over at Crescendo/DH started playing. As far as massively multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPG) go, WoW is by far the best one I’ve played. Albeit, my experience with the genre is pretty limited in comparison to, say, that of my room-mate. However, I know for a fact that he would concur with my assertion.
Anywho, after some server-hopping as we tried to find a place to spend our role-playing hours, I started playing as an Undead Rogue by the name of Artemes on Gorgonnash (Yes, I am a Salvatore fan; and yes, I am aware of the fact that my spelling of Artemis is incorrect. The true spelling was taken.). I slowly whittled my way to level 48, but I just couldn’t muster the patience to crest the 40’s. In addition to this, constant ganking (For the unitiated, that’s a term to describe the wholesale slaughter of lower level players by higher level players), I grew jaded.
After several weeks of not playing the game, I finally got up the gall to cancel the account. And yet here we are, chronicling the reactivation of said account. Yes, the lack of an Xbox 360 has been a large impetus for my decision to 0nce more enter the world of Azeroth, but I have to say I’m quite intrigued by some of the changes I’ve heard about, to say nothing of the upcoming expansion. It’s true, you know; old habits die hard. But hey, at least it’s not smoking, right?
