Motorola X205 Gaming Headset

I finally got fed up with the standard Xbox Live headset that comes with the Premium Xbox 360 a couple nights ago. The flimsy construction hasn’t been my chief complaint regarding the pack-in headset so much as the shoddy sound quality it offers. Overall, voices just came through muffled and drowned out. With OK Company ramping up, I really needed something that offered a little more clarity of sound.

I had seen Motorola’s X205 gaming headset in a few of my aimless meanderings through Best Buy’s gaming department, but between the EA and the NFL badging all over it, it was easy to dismiss. But as I started looking for a replacement headset, I found myself reconsidering Motorola’s offering. I wanted something that fit snugly but I wasn’t interested in getting an ear-bud headset, because I don’t find them all that comfortable.

When I considered the features that I was looking for along with price, the X205 really stood out from the crowd. The padded ear-cup and head-band make for a nice, comfortable fit. The crisp clarity of the sound quality is a welcome contrast to what my last headset offered. The swivel boom-mic is well positioned, making for noticeable improvement in voice quality. Built in volume and mute controls ensure ease of use. Between all of the creature comforts, sleek design and the modest price-tag of $29.99, I think Motorola’s X205 is a great piece of hardware that’s well worth picking up.

Im still waiting for someone to make a good wireless headset. The cord on the one I have (stock 360 headset) really bothers me.

What you NEED to buy are new stereo headphones for music at work so I can get mine back. :P

Yeah, only if there’s a place that lets me trade in old games to get them, because that’s how I got this head-set.

[…] Now, I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking, “Geez, Merc, didn’t you just get a new headset a little bit ago?” And you’re right, I did. I traded in some old games and picked up Motorola’s X205 Gaming Headset, which, mind you, is a decent piece of hardware. Still, I think my review was a bit premature in its gleaming praise for the device. Sure, the sound quality was always great, however when I used the term snug in my review, I meant it in a positive light. As my time with the X205 went on that snugness began to take on some very negative undertones. It started to feel like it was crushing my head at times. To make matters worse the vaccuum seal that the earpiece created when strapped to my noggin nearly guaranteed that my ear would actually sweat. If you’ve never had a sweaty ear, you’re lucky. Sadly, these deficiencies weren’t apparent to me early on, so I apologize to anyone who rushed out and purchased the X205 based on my gushing endorsement. […]
