Transformers and more “snakes” for Samuel L. Jackson

First off, Dean sent me this link to an Ain’t It Cool News post about an upcoming Sam “Muthafuckin’” Jackson flick titled Black Snake Moan. Now, I’ll be honest, my initial reaction that this was some parody inspired by Snakes on a Plane, but upon further investigation, this is actually looking to be another hit from the director of last year’s sleeper Hustle & Flow. I’m rather looking forward to it.

While poking around over at Ain’t It Cool I also stumbled upon a bit of news about the upcoming live-action Transformers. I’ll admit I’ve had a number of reservations about such an ambitious undertaking as translating the hit cartoon series of the ’80’s into a palatable summer blockbuster, but these recent images of Optimus Prime and some of the other robots in disguise have me feeling a bit giddy. Still, while these images have bolstered my spirits about the project, I’m still wary of Michael Bay’s involvement.

At any rate, check out the new Transformers. Oh, and on a side note, they’ve even gotten Peter Cullen (the man who voiced Optimus on the cartoon series) to reprise his role as the 18-wheeled leader of the Autobots.
Thanks to Ain’t It Cool for the pics…

Bumblebee

Blackout/Incinerator

I don’t know that a giant scorpion is much of a “disguise”, but this is Scorponok

It’s not the Optimus I remember, but he looks cool all the same. Aside from the flames, that is.

Damn yous. I was gonna post about this. :( (Black Snake Moan, that is.)

Transformers is still gonna be goofy. There’s no way around it. These pics look cool, but they’d serve better for a cartoon or comic book than a movie IMO.

Oh, I have little doubt that the movie will be goofy, but I was really worried about how they’d end up handling the Transformers themselves. Based on these pics, I’m somewhat impressed with the overall art design. Of course, Michael Bay will end up tarnishing the Transformers legacy with this picture, but I’ll still see it.
