Hazmat Modine

As I was driving home after work yesterday listening to NPR, I caught an interview with Wade Schuman, frontman for the unusual musical troupe known as Hazmat Modine. As I listened to Wade wax poetic on the origins and influences of Hazmat Modine, I was immediately intrigued. This curiosity was only piqued by the snippets that were played off their album Bahamut during the interview. In their own words, their sound is “a rustic, deliriously Dionysian blend of whorehouse Blues, Reggae, Klezmer, Country and Gypsy-tinged music.” In my own words, I would say that Hazmat Modine is like the Squirrel Nut Zippers and Soul Coughing meeting in a back alley to score some H off of Tom Waits. I’ve been listening to the album all morning (I’m on my second run-through at the moment), and I find their seamless fusion of a multitude of eclectic genres to be altogether entertaining. It’s just great to hear something new grown from so many musical roots.

Fantastic. I still have to give it a listen, but if your description is any indication, i’m stoked. By the way - I was serious, that’s the best description of anything ever. Again.
