Renaissance

I caught a trailer for the French film Renaissance a few weeks back and was thoroughly impressed by it. I know a lot of people probably haven’t heard anything about it, but Renaissance is a futuristic film-noir thriller that appears to be one part Sin City and one part A Scanner Darkly.

I don’t know much in the way of particulars regarding the film’s plotline, but here’s the press release that Miramax offered:

In 2054, Paris is a labyrinth where all movement is monitored and recorded. Casting a shadow over everything is the city’s largest company, Avalon, which insinuates itself into every aspect of contemporary life to sell its primary export — youth and beauty. In this world of stark contrasts and rigid laws the populace is kept in line and accounted for.

I’m not looking to find anything more out, because I honestly think this could be one of those movies that surprises me. There’s nothing I hate more than watching a movie for the first time only to find out that I’ve seen everything in the previews. So, that’s it, I’m boycotting movie trailers. At any rate, I recommend you check out the site for the film and have a look.

Sounds awesome. Looks really slick, too. Black-and-white certainly has its moments.
