Poem ~ Heart Held Hostage
there is a violent peace
in your delicate touch
a delving reach
found in even
the most grazing taction
it brushes against
an unguarded space within me
such quiet, gentle strength
in your slightest caress
it shatters barricades
rallying imprisoned emotions
to mad riot frenzy
threatening governing
reason with overthrow
heart held hostage
yet with little negotiation
and easy accord
are your demands met
I give my heart as willing ransom
in exchange for yours
in your delicate touch
a delving reach
found in even
the most grazing taction
it brushes against
an unguarded space within me
such quiet, gentle strength
in your slightest caress
it shatters barricades
rallying imprisoned emotions
to mad riot frenzy
threatening governing
reason with overthrow
heart held hostage
yet with little negotiation
and easy accord
are your demands met
I give my heart as willing ransom
in exchange for yours
It being Valentine’s Day, I couldn’t rightly go on without a poetic offering to my beautiful wife. Consider this my “shouting it from the rooftops”, my love. Each of my days with you have been a blessing, and for that I thank you. Happy Valentine’s Day.
