Do you see in these words
What I put into them?
Is it possible that,
Through a simple manipulation
Of diction, I am not only able to transport
You to other times & places,
But that I can,
for just a moment,
Confer my mind to yours,
Touching something hidden and
Innate within all of us.
Do we share similar emotional
Responses to certain stimuli,
Or are these patterns unique?
Is it simply that my thoughts
On a specific experience
Are put to pen, and,
When read,are
Picked apart so as to
Provide my audience with the words
To describe events completely
Detached from that which I have described?
Regardless,
it is some response which is given,
and thus my task is accomplished.
For poetry�s ultimate goals
Are the evocation of emotion,
The rousing of consciousness,
And the expression of the inexplicable.
