Poem ~ pacings
There’s something i can relate to
in the restless pacings of the local zoo’s polar bear,
something kindred in that spiritual disquiet.
There’s a disconsoling consonance found
in the knowledge that neither of us are living as intended.
As an elaborate, well-constructed tribute to man’s self denial,
a zoo plays shrine to the human ego’s supremacy over its own bestial nature.
